MORE Than Ready filly Dreamaway is likely to back-up in next weekend’s Group 1 WATC Derby (2400m) after a clinical win in the Group 3 WATC Oaks (2400m) on Saturday.
The Grant Williams-trained 3YO completed the first leg of a W.A Stakes double for More Than Ready and has been the dominant filly in the state this season. Dreamaway has made a clean sweep of the fillies classic’s beginning with the Group 3 W.A. Fillies Championship followed by the Ascot 1000 Guineas and then the Natasha Stakes in quick succession prior to her Oaks success.
Dreamaway was sent out a prohibitive $1.60 favourite in the WATC Oaks and gave her supporters no cause for concern tracking handy to the speed before racing on to win by a length.
Her latest triumph saw her earnings pass the $400,000 barrier with the potential to bank another $300,000 should be add the Derby to her resume.
”It is a grand testament to More Than Ready’s versatility as a sire that he will have a star classic filly trying to become an Oaks and Derby winner while one of his 2Yo’s Elite Falls is a chance to give him his third Golden Slipper winner,” Vinery’s Adam White said.
Last weekend’s Ascot meeting was a red-letter day for More Than Ready progeny after reigning Belmont Oaks winner, New Image, won the Matchmaker Classic (1400m).
Kudos to prominent owner/breeder Bob Peters who is responsible for both Dreamaway and New Image.
