PROMISING Dubleo three-year-old The Black Ferri looks destined for better races after he scored his second win from as many starts in yesterday’s Brian Taylor Handicap (1200m) at Gosford.
The locally trained galloper was backed in $3.60 into $2.70 favourite on the strength of his all-the-way 1.5-lens maiden win at Wyong on April 19.
Veteran jockey Robert Thompson gave his mount every chance again yesterday dashing clear of his rivals in the run to line to win by a widening 3.3-lens margin.
The Black Ferri is out of Alquoz mare, La Ferri, who won 7 races from 1000m to 2000m including two at Rosehill and one on Randwick’s inner track.
“To win on debut then do it again next start is difficult enough,” Vinery’s Conor Phelan said, ”but The Black Ferri not only did that, he won his class 1 by almost three and half so he’s obviously an above average type.”
