OUTSTANDSING sprinter Buffering is expected to start Black Caviar-like odds when he strives to claim back to back Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) at Doomben tomorrow.
The son of Mossman has been freshened-up since his third placing in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes which followed the Queenslander’s nose defeat in the Newmarket Handicap.
“We’re really happy with Buffering, looking at the race on paper he looks simply the class horse there with his feats behind Black Caviar and Hay List,” trainer Robert Heathcote told Sportsman.
“We’ve looked at the BTC Cup as a nice Group 1 option to have a crack at and rest assured Buffering has been set for it. He has his name on the trophy already.”
Buffering will be glad for the absence of heavyweight sparring partners Black Caviar and Hay List this Winter, he’s been placed behind one or both of them on four separate occasions.
“If they’re not on the scene he’s probably the premier sprint horse in the country,” says Heathcote.
“His day will come. Hay List has been the bridesmaid to Black Caviar and he’s going to be top dog for a while now and when Hay List moves on, I am confident Buffering can become one of the top dogs around.
“Touch wood, everything is fine with my bloke so far and now I know what I’ve got, it is going to be very much a case of tread carefully and don’t go to the well too often, look after him and hopefully we can enjoy the spoils for another couple of years with him.”
