UP and coming star Landing provided a sumptuous entree to some More Joyous Doncaster Mile heroics when he kept his unbeaten record in tact with a swashbuckling win in the Listed ATC South Pacific Classic (1400m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
A son of super sire More Than Ready, the Gai Waterhouse trained three-year-old led throughout to score an emphatic 1 3/4-lens win ahead of talented galloper Sacred Pins and others.
Perfectly rated by Nash Rawiller, Landing exploded away up the famous Randwick rise signalling a threshold of ability that will carry him far and above Listed company as his career unfolds.
“Nash went at a very fast clip and I thought he might have been asking too much of him,” Waterhouse said.
“But the horse is just flying. He’s gone from strength to strength.
“I’ve taken him very steadily through his classes and today I thought he was ready for it.
“He was more than ready for it.”
Rawiller said Landing did a good job to keep going after being forced to work early from a wide gate.
“He had to do a bit of work to get across but he just did it at his own cruising speed after that,” Rawiller said.
Waterhouse said Landing was now likely to head to the Hawkesbury Guineas in two weeks with next month’s Scone Guineas also in the pipeline.
Landing’s triumph sees him become the 95th global stakeswinners for super sire More Than Ready whose champion daughter More Than Ready bagged her seventh Group 1 win taking out the feature $2m Doncaster Mile.
Incredibly, the gelding is bred on the exact same cross as Waterhouse’s Golden Slipper star Sebring as well as stakeswinner Cambiaso, Raceway, Ashokan, Hot ‘N’ Ready, Proliferate and the stakes placed Dysfunction, Later Gator and Willingani.
