DUBLEO mare Koonoomoo took her earnings above $170,000 when careering away with the MRC Le Pines Funerals Handicap (1200m) at Sandown-Lakeside today in a stunning return to form.
The Mornington visitor had strung together two soft wins at Moonee Valley during January before an uncharacteristic failure at Caulfield in the Group 3 MRC Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) last month.
Clearly the 39-day freshen-up worked wonders with the mare who surged clear to score a 1.5-lens win in the Rating 78 sprint.
Koonoomoo has proven to be an inspired purchase, bought for just $10,000 at the Melbourne Autumn Yearling sale in 2009.
She has so far won $171, 451 and has a promised residual value given her race record and pedigree.
The four-year-old is out of the Rory’s Jester mare Maximova whose grand-dam, Embassadora, took out the Group 1 AJC Chipping Norton Stakes and Group 2 STC Apollo Stakes.
She is also the dam of Group 3 winner Western Chorus who delivered Hong Kong champion Jeune King Prawn and the Listed winner, Creative Plan.
”Dubleo boasts a winners to runners ratio of 60.4 percent in Australia which is a very high strike rate,” says Vinery Stud’s Conor Phelan.
“He has this extraordinary habit of having periods where he spikes in terms of winners, this could be one of those periods, he is very productive.”
