More Than Ready colt Gimmethegreenlight will tune up for another Group 1 in a restricted race at Turffontein next Tuesday, March 13.
Gimmethegreenlight (3c More Than Ready – Yes She Can Cancan by Canny Lad) won the G1 Queens Plate during the Kenilworth carnival in January and then looked likely to double up in the G1 J&B Met before champion filly Igugu emerged to win running away. His next G1 assignment will be in the SA Classic (1800m) on March 31.
Trainer Justin Snaith will give him an easy kill in the Soccer 6 Conditions Plate (1400m) on Tuesday. “It’s his first run in Jo’burg,” the Cape Town trainer said. “He’s drawn wide and will be dropped in and given a chance with the long Turffontein run-in.
“His work has been exceptional since the J&B Met and he should win although the result is irrelevant. We just need him to see the track and not be given a hard ride with the stick.
“Piere (Strydom) knows the horse is better under a hands and heels ride. I’m confident he will run on strongly and be spot on for 1800m two weeks later.”
Gimmethegreenlight could kick-start a Group 1 winning week for the Vinery champion in South Africa. More Than Ready filly Samaready is a pre-post favourite for the G1 Golden Slipper at Rosehill the following Saturday, April 7.
