THE memory of Vinery Stud’s treasured foundation stallion, the late Red Ransom, was honoured with an impressive debut win for the David Hayes trained Erghaam in Adelaide yesterday.
The Shadwell Estates owned and bred colt powered away from his rivals at the business end going to record an emphatic 1.3-lens win in the SAJC Veolia Handicap (1100m).
Erghaam is a member of the second to last crop of Red Ransom foals owing to the stallion’s sad departure during the back half of the 2009 breeding season. This 2yo crop has already been represented by Mick Price’s flying 2yo Stakes winner Malasun this season.
The Hayes colt is second foal of Dixieland Band matron, Bayyaan, whose own dam – Najiya – was placed in the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket.
Buyers last opportunity to secure a Red Ransom colt or filly will come during April at the Australian Easter Yearling sale in Sydney where the stallion has a total of 11 lots on offer.
