FIRST CROP, Excites filly Amber’s Crown looks certain to measure up against Queensland’s foremost juveniles this campaign after she kept her unbeaten record intact with another easy win at the Gold Coast this afternoon.
The Steven O’Dea trained two-year-old was having her first start since coming from last to win at the same venue on debut back on November 13.
Jockey Ryan Wiggins made full use of barrier one in today’s return using the filly’s natural pace to lead the field and the filly was never headed.
Amber’s Crown upped the tempo on straightening powering away to score by 2.5-lens with 3.8-lens to the third horse.
Gold Coast racecaller Steve Hawkins described the win “as soft as you get and an absolute hand canter” adding that Amber’s Crown has “got plenty of ability.”
Amber’s Crown has already banked $27,000 for connections in just two starts with the promise of more to come.
Her emergence as a potential black-type filly is a triumph for breeder Barbra Cathcart and Vinery Stud as Amber’s Crown is out of a mare by the Stud’s star stallion and sire of sire’s More Than Ready.
