VINERY stallion Dubleo’s festive start to the new year has continued unabated after the lightly raced Monnie’s Double became his third winner in the space of four days when bagging today’s McNamee Constructions Class 2 Handicap (1100m) at Wyong.
It was the mare’s second win in as many starts since she joined the David Pfieffer stable.
The Warwick Farm trainer kicked off their association with Monnie’s Double first win also at Wyong back in the winter before she was tipped out.
Clearly she lost none of her zest over the break able to overcome the outside alley to race clear of Crystal Miss to score by 1 1/4-lens with Tanamira Lass a further 3-lens away in third.
Monnie’s Double was bred and owned by prominent owner Mr J J Starr and is from a half sister to stakeswinner and Group 2 placed Rich Megadale who won the time honoured AJC P.J. Bell Handicap (1200m) at Randwick during an auspicious career.
Monnie’s Double’s win follows hot on the heels of Skatebaord’s blisteringly fast triumph at Warwick Farm on Monday’s traditional Tattersall’s Club meeting to welcome in the New Year.
Such was the merit of the gelding’s effort that trainer Guy Walter has elected to back the horse up in Saturday’s ATC TAB Number 1 Club Benchmark 80 Handicap (1400m) at the same venue.
Dubleo’s last metro winner of the year was Little Vicki who staged an unlikely last to first victory at Canterbury in December to lodge her fourth career win (and 6 placings) from 18 outings.
On that same day in Queensland, Beaudesert trained mare Millyen broke through for a well earned win when led throughout to take the GCTC Ladies’ Day 7/1 Handicap (1100m) by a comfortable 1 1/4-lens.
“Dubleo is a prolific sire of winner’s. He didn’t get big books early on but they keep winning and he is now serving big books each season. It is no surprise to see another run of winner’s like this.” Vinery’s Conor Phelan commented.
