IMPECABLY bred filly Fit And Ready showed herself to be exactly that after an ominous second behind stablemate and Testa Rossa filly, Raw Edge, in the fastest barrier trial of the morning at Randwick yesterday.
Fit And Ready (Gai Waterhouse) was spotting the leader a considerable start turning for home before a sudden burst of acceleration helped her slice the deficit to 1.3-lens at the post.
Monday’s effort comes in the wake of Fit And Ready’s narrow but impressive win in a 740m heat at HQ on February 9 signalling a win is not far away once she resumes.
Fit And Ready is by More Than Ready out of former crack filly Fitting who won the AJC Gimcrack Stakes and was placed third in the Silver Slipper and fourth behind Bint Marscay in the Golden Slipper.
More Than Ready has been the source of leading fillies in past season’s with More Joyous last year and the exciting More Strawberries this season.
Fitting is the dam of eight winners including 1999 Golden Slipper winner and successful sire Catbird as well as Danbird who won the STC Pago Pago Stakes and was runner-up in the Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
