BENICIO mare Beggin signalled a potential lucrative campaign ahead with a determined first-up win in the GCTC Live Entertainment Handicap (1100m) at the Gold Coast this afternoon.
The lightly raced four-year-old settled in behind the speed improving to be within striking distance as the field turned for home gradually cutting down the deficit to score a short head win under his full 57kg impost.
Beggin went into the race with 6 prior starts, one win and three placings including one at Doomben back in August.
Beggin is a superbly bred mare, as well as being by More Than Ready’s Group 1 VRC Victoria Derby winning son, is out of a mare by Arc de Triopmhe hero Peintre Celebre.
Her own dam is a daughter of Strawberry Fair who won the 1988 Group 1 STC Orlando Classic (1500m) beating glamour mares Glory Girl and Dinky Flyer.
Other notable members of the family include Barkada who was a three-year-old when defeated Northerly to win the Group 1 VATC C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m).
