More Than Ready’s 2yo feature race contenders, Elite Falls and Huegill, did their prospects no harm with Stakes placings at Caulfield and Randwick respectively today.
John O’Shea’s Inglis Banner winning filly, Elite Falls, looms as a powerful force in the Golden Slipper lead-up races after finishing second to the talented Satin Shoes in today’s prestigious ATC Widden Stakes (1100m).
Meanwhile in Melbourne, impeccably-bred colt Huegill was able to finish third on debut in the MRC Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) behind Preview winner and pronounced Blue Diamond favourite, Sepoy.
“I think once Elite Falls gets out to 1200m you will see a very good filly,” Vinery’s Conor Phelan remarked.
“Even from the day she had her first trial at the official 2YO heats at Randwick, you could see that she had a good turn of foot. She came from off the pace to sweep past them and win the Inglis Banner over 1000m and she will appreciate further.”
As for Huegill, Phelan said his effort was outstanding given the quality of the opposition.
“It’s not easy to win on debut no matter where you go, Blue Diamond Prelude’s are certainly in that category. I thought his run was very good, he showed good speed and hung on well for third. He’ll only get better from here.”
