‘VINERY’ mares Typhoon Tracy and Ortensia are set to lock horns for the fist ever time in tonight’s enthralling Group One MVRC Australia Stakes under lights at Moonee Valley.
The 1200m feature marks the return to racing for Red Ransom’s reigning Horse of the Year, Typhoon Tracy who is seeking to add a sixth Group One to her peerless record this autumn.
Meanwhile, the Tony Noonan trained Testa Rossa mare, Ortensia steps out for the first time since her heroic fifth in the prestigious Hong Kong International Sprint at Sha Tin in December.
”Both mares are greatly admired in racing circles, especially here at Vinery because they have such a strong connection with the Farm,” says Vinery’s Adam White.
”We always say how tough and sound the Testa Rossa’s are – she is the perfect example, having won stakes races in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.”
Typhoon Tracy’s relationship with Vinery and the soil on which is stands goes back a long way, says White.
”Typhoon Tracy was born and raised on the property as it was then known as Segenhoe, before it became Vinery Stud in 1999.
”Typhoon Tracy’s dam, the great Tracy’s Element, has been a permanent boarder here at Vinery for her owner’s John & Fu Mei Hutchins and we like to think she is part of the furniture.
”Of course Typhoon Tracy is also by Red Ransom who was our foundation stallion at Vinery and is buried here overlooking the paddock and breeding barn where he contributed so much to our future.”
White couldn’t, or wouldn’t, nominate a winner saying only; ”It will be a great race, I wouldn’t mind a dead-heat, but may the best mare win.”
