HANDSOME Dubleo colt Queenian was responsible for an impressive debut in today’s AJC Autumn carnival On Sale Now Stakes (1000m) finishing third in what appears to be a particularly strong form race from an autumn point of view.
The race was won by the heavily backed favourite Glissade (by Redoute’s Choice ex Steflara) who proved too strong for Gerald Ryan’s Red Ransom grand-daughter Swerte Bella who had firmed from $17 in early markets to start $4.60f.
Queenian likewise was the medium of strong support at longer odds, his opening quote of $34 on the NSW Tab Fixed Odds board was hammered down to $7.50 at the jump.
The David Payne trained two-year-old is a most attractive colt, black in colour, and thus very reminiscent of his illustrious father.
“Reading what Peter Snowden had to say about the winner and the raps that were on the runner-up before the race, you would imagine that this race had plenty of depth,” Vinery’s Conor Phelan said.
“In light of that, it would appear that Queenian has a bright future himself and he is certainly in the right stable to make his way forward to the better races in the autumn including the Golden Slipper.”
Meanwhile, another Dubleo progeny in the news this week is Skateboard who appeared at a set of Randwick trials on December 30.
The Guy Walter trained galloper was never pressured when finishing second in the 740m heat.
Skateboard has won three of four career starts including a memorable 7-lens stroll on debut at Goulburn.
