Queensland icon Buffering was named Queensland’s Horse of the Year for a record fifth time when the 2015-16 awards were presented at Doomben on Saturday.
The achievements of Mossman’s marvel were celebrated following another successful season winning the G1 Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley, G1 Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot and G1 Al Quoz Sprint in Dubai.
He also won the $1million Magic Millions QTIS Plate at the Gold Coast between trips to Perth and the Gulf.
Buffering (9g Mossman – Action Annie by Anabaa) is the most successful Magic Millions graduate of all time. He has banked over $7.26 million after changing hands for just $22,000 as a yearling at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions.
“He’s a great credit to Queensland and had flown the State’s flag at national and international meetings for years,” trainer Rob Heathcote said. “It’s been a crazy ride and let’s hope it isn’t over yet.
“I’m keen for him to contest the Moir Stakes again. Surely, if he wins it a fourth time they will name it after him.”
Buffering is a son of Vinery sire Mossman and Group 1 Queensland Derby winner Eagle Way, who won the 3YO Horse of the Year award, is by Vinery champion More Than Ready.
In the breeding awards, Mossman’s sire-son Love Conquers All was Champion First Season Stallion in Queensland. He missed winning the Australian title by just $30.
