PROMISING More Than Ready gelding Champing continued his climb up the ladder as one of Sydney’s most exciting gallopers recording his fourth win from five career starts in the @royaltandwick On Twitter Handicap (1100m) at Warwick Farm today.
The Pam Webber trained sprinter put the writing on the wall for today’s effort with a slashing trial win ahead of his spring return.
Champing settled just off the speed in the Benchmark 75 before letting down with a swift burst of acceleration then holding off a late challenge to score in impressive style.
The five-year-old son of More Than Ready’s only defeat came at Canberra two starts ago where he was blocked for a run at a crucial stage yet still managed to run third.
Champing is out of AJC Gimcrack Stakes winner Spurcent, a daughter of Flying Spur and thus bred on the exact same cross that delivered one of More Than Ready’s two Golden Slipper winners, Sebring.
Today’s Warwick Farm meeting was a happy occassion for More Than Ready who also supplied debut winner Prinscengracht who overcame a wide draw and a big field to win the Lansvale Plate (1300m) for trainer Anthony Cummings and jockey Nash Rawiller.
Prinsengracht, named after a canal in Amsterdam, is raced by his breeder Gerry Harvey and is a son of Naturalism mare, True Confession, a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Shamekha and a close relation to Magic Millions hero Brave Warrior.
