TESTA Rossa mare There’s Only One is aiming to keep her outstanding first-up record intact when she tackles Koonoomoo in the Group 3 MRC Bellmaine Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
Already a winner of 8 from 18 starts (with 5 placings), There’s Only One has raced 5 times fresh for a win and four placings, three of those seconds.
The Peter Moody trained has already earned some minor black-type courtesy of her third in the Listed VRC Winter Championship (1600m) before going for a spell.
There’s Only One has won from 1200m to 2040m on good, dead, slow and is undefeated in her two starts on the heavy.
The mare has some opposition to overcome this weekend led by the Dubleo mare Koonoomoo who won the Group 3 VRC Herald Sun Stakes (1400m) on Melbourne Cup day.
Koonoomoo was backed from $8.50 into $6.50 when first-up in the Group 2 Australia Stakes finishing 2.7-lens fifth behind the winner Sea Lord.
Meanwhile, Testa Rossa’s world beater Ortensia is not certain to resume against Black Caviar and Samaready in the Lightning Stakes. Trainer Paul Messara could set the mare for the Oakleigh Plate or send her straight to Dubai to prepare for the Al Quoz Sprint which she won so brilliantly when resuming last year.
