Vinery Stud champion More Than Ready is on the verge of a Group 1 double with his exciting youngsters Vernazza and Global Quest.

Vernazza won the Matamata Breeders’ Stakes Gr.2 on Saturday and minutes later Global Quest was runner-up to Vinery graduate Farnan in the Silver Slipper Stakes Gr.2 at Rosehill.

“The plan is to target the Sistema Stakes,” trainer Lance Noble said after his filly overcame a wide run for a three-quarter length victory at Matamata.  “She’s just keeps learning and Michael (Coleman) had a handful of horse when he presented her in the straight.”

Vernazza is the 202nd Stakes winner by More Than Ready and 24 of them have been at the elite level.  The Sistema Stakes Gr.1 over 1200m is scheduled for March 7 at Ellerslie.

“She’s a long-striding filly and I was worried the wet surface wouldn’t help her stretch out,” Noble explained.  “Michael said she will be much better on a firmer track and that her class was the difference today.”

Vernazza is a homebred for Cambridge Stud owners Brendan and Jo Lindsay.  She is a younger half-sister to Bavella (Snitzel) who was placed behind NZ’s top colt Catalyst at Ellerslie last month.  Their dam Zonza (Zabeel) had won the 2013 Ladies Day Vase Gr.3 at Caulfield.

The Lindsays also race Vinery graduate Letzbeglam (Snitzel) who finished sixth to stablemate Tagaloa in the Blue Diamond Stakes Gr.1 at Caulfield on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Global Quest remains on track for the Golden Slipper Stakes Gr.1 following another positive performance in the Silver Slipper.  He won the Breeders’ Plate Gr.3 at Randwick in October and trainer Chris Waller put him away with the Golden Slipper a priority on March 21.

“That was a very good effort.  He’s ticking along beautifully,” jockey James McDonald said at Rosehill.  “The blinkers will go on soon and he will come into his own once he gets over 1200m and 1400m.”

Blueblood filly Ready For Caviar is another More Than Ready 2yo preparing to debut in Melbourne.  The Lindsay Park-trained youngster is a daughter of superstar sprinter Black Caviar and she will trial over 800m next week.

“She had an easy jump-out at Flemington on Friday,” trainer David Hayes reported.  “I had given her a gallop at home that showed me she’s definitely got ability and hopefully she can get to the races this campaign.”
