DUBLEO filly Koonoomoo is set to return to the winner’s circle this weekend at Caulfield given an appreciable drop in class from her first-up effort when fifth in the Group 2 Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley two weeks ago.
The Mornington housed mare will carry top weight in tomorrow’s Group 3 MRC Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) against a quality field of mares led by Testa Rossa daughter There’s Only One from the Moody camp.
Koonoomoo rose to become one of the most consistent mares in the land during a lucrative if not a little unlucky spring campaign which saw her finish a close-up second twice before finally reaping the reward with a commanding win on Melbourne Cup in the Group 3 VRC Herald Sun Stakes (1400m).
A five-year-old daughter of Vinery resident Dubleo, Koonoomoo boasts a record of 23s 5-5-3 with earnings of close to $350,000.
She was $8.50 into $6.50 in the Australia Stakes clocking in 2.7-lens behind the winner, Sea Lord.
