Young Vinery stallions Exceedance and Ole Kirk posted impressive results on the weekend with two-year-old filly Ready and Mabel (Exceedance) breaking her maiden over 1000m at Toowoomba and first crop son Prestige Forever (Ole Kirk) running second over the same distance in the Listed TAB We’re On at Flemington.

Having only her second start, Ready and Mabel flew the gates to lead the field early and fought on strongly in the closing stages to win by 1.3 lengths. Trained by Nicholas Beck and ridden by Hannah Richardson, the filly is out of the Rubick mare Peggy Selene and was retained to race by her breeders.

She becomes the 26th individual winner for young sire Exceedance, following the likes of Listed winners Swiftfalcon and Dance To The Boom.

Leading first crop sire Ole Kirk came close to producing another two-year-old Stakes winner with the David Brideoake and Matt Jenkins trained Prestige Forever narrowly beaten at Flemington on Saturday. After travelling up on the speed, he led the field at the 100m mark only to be beaten half a length on the line.

Out of the multiple Group Three-winning mare Cool Passion, the colt was a $400,000 yearling purchase from the 2024 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale for his owner Eric Yeung.

Ole Kirk has already produced two Stakes winners from just nine runners in his first crop, making him the leading first season sire by Stakes winners and prizemoney earnings, ahead of Lucky Vega and Wootton Bassett.

This success on the track has translated into the auction ring, with Ole Kirk’s progeny proving in hot demand at this week’s Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, ending the Book 1 session as the leading second crop sire by aggregate (among stallions with no Northern Hemisphere runners). His ten yearlings in Book One sold for an average of $172,500 highlighted by Lot 341 – a filly out of Group Two winner Music Bay – selling for $325,000 on Monday. The result confirmed Ole Kirk’s position as the leading second season sire at the sale.
