All Too Hard 3yo Test The Law will be set for black-type assignments at the Adelaide autumn carnival on the back of a remarkable victory in the Coopers Brewery Hcp (1500m) on Saturday.
Trainer Matthew Seyers was tossing up whether to start Test The Law at Gawler or at Moonee Valley but elected to stay closer to home after he drew an outside marble in Melbourne. There was also a $19,000 SA Racing Rewards bonus to consider on top of the prizemoney at Gawler.
Shouldering 62.5ks less a claim for Jacob Opperman, he speared through a gap in the closing stages to defeat Whatsanamegeorge (Ambidexter) and Imbibe (Shalaa) much to the relief of punters who backed him into a $3.50 favourite. “I thought we were gone when he was blocked for a run in the straight so it was a great ride by Jacob to recover and get him home,” Seyers said. “It was his first go at 1500m and he relaxed like a horse improving all the time at the craft.”
Test The Law will have a three-week break and come back for the Nitschke Stakes (LR, 1400m) on April 29 and the Adelaide Guineas (LR, 1600m) on May 13.
Seyers bought him for $45,000 from Baramul Stud at the 2021 Adelaide Magic Millions. “He looked an athlete although I was pretty sure he wouldn’t get up and run early. He broke in beautifully and proved me wrong winning a 2yo maiden at Murray Bridge. I put it down to his professional attitude. He has a lovely temperament with a good head and hopefully it’s onwards and upwards now.”
Test The Law is the first foal of Constitutional (Medaglia d’Oro) who was sent to Westbury Stud in New Zealand where she foaled a Capitalist filly in October 2021. His second-dam Assertion (Zabeel) has a Reliable Man filly (Lot 663) entered by Westbury Stud for the NZB Karaka National Yearling Sale on Wednesday week, February 1.
Meanwhile, All Too Hard’s Group 1 winners Forbidden Love and Alligator Blood are ready to resume for their autumn campaigns. Forbidden Love won a Warwick Farm trial by six lengths last Monday and she has been nominated for the Expressway Stakes (Gr.2, 1200m) at Rosehill this Saturday.
Alligator Blood was last seen winning the Cantala Stakes (Gr.1, 1600m) at Flemington in November and he’s scheduled to race first-up in the C F Orr Stakes (Gr.1, 1400m) at Sandown Hillside on February 11.
