Star Turn mare Everyone’s A Star consolidated her last-start win at Randwick with another progressive victory under Tyler Schiller at the Kensington circuit on Wednesday.
Trainer Marc Chevalier believed she had to improve a length or two to win again and she was equal to the task in the Bivouac First Yearlings Hcp (1150m). “She carried more weight today and has been in work since December,” he said. “But she’s tough and honest and is full of confidence this prep.
“She’s had two wins and two placings from her past five starts and is doing an excellent job for her connections. Tyler has good hands and got her to relax into the race before quickening into the straight.”
Everyone’s A Star firmed from $15 into $9 to score by a half-length from Southern Chilli (Al Maher) and Waikiki (Capitalist) for a syndicate managed by Dr Ulysses Crosson. Chevalier will back off now and bring her back for another sprint at Rosehill on April 27.
Her half-brother Nosie By Nature (Written By) won on debut at Morphettville on New Year’s Eve and her WA-based full-brother Onemoreforleo (Star Turn) is nominated for the Sky Racing Provincial Championships (1200m) at York on Easter Monday.
Their dam Pietra (Rock Of Gibraltar) is owned by Denise Dunphy (Boeara Holdings) and their USA-bred second-dam Suzy Smart (Smart Strike) descends from Minstrella (The Minstrel) who was a Group 1 winner at Newmarket and the Curragh (2).
Everyone’s A Star responded when Schiller asked her to let down in the straight. “We jumped really well and I didn’t want to take her back and waste that good start,” he explained. “She’s been up for a while and was softened up so I was a bit worried in the straight. But she’s brave and kicked again.”
Vinery sire Star Turn has maintained an outstanding record this season and can boast a 74% career strike-rate ahead of the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale where he has fillies from Naantali (Lot 177) and Vienna Miss (Lot 376).
Vinery partner Greg Perry bred his filly out of NZ-bred mare Naantali (Rip Van Winkle) who was a Listed winner in Melbourne. Her first foal by Zoustar is an unraced 2yo filly named Antalian and she was purchased for $340,000 by Nigel Blackiston from Vinery (as agent) at last year’s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.
