A treble of winners by Vinery sires at Sha Tin on Sunday highlighted the continued success of their progeny in Hong Kong, headlined by Farnan producing his second winner in as many weeks in the jurisdiction.

James Cummings has made an immediate impact with Farnan’s progeny, preparing his first two Hong Kong winners by the son of Not A Single Doubt, with Grand Eagle and Speedy Power saluting just seven days apart.

Speedy Power, a graduate of Cannon Hayes Inglis Easter Yearling draft, was initially purchased by New Zealand’s Woburn Farm before being resold under the same banner for $150,000 to Mr Chun Wai Choi at the NZB Ready to Run Sale.

Farnan has attracted strong interest from Hong Kong buyers since his first crops reached the market, with leading industry figures Ricky Yiu, George Moore, John Foote, Mr Chun Wai Choi and Mr Ryan Fownes securing his progeny as both yearlings and ready to run prospects.

That demand continued at the recent Inglis Ready2Race Sale, where a gelding out of a half-sister to Group 1 winner Spright sold to Douglas Whyte for $300,000.

Star Turn and All Too Hard also added to the success, with Megastar Heart and the undefeated Ka Ying Lightning recording impressive victories on Sunday.

Trained by Caspar Fownes, Megastar Heart was a Listed winner in Australia before transferring to Hong Kong and has since won his past two starts, setting a class record for 1200 metres in 1:07.75 on Sunday and taking his career earnings beyond $3.5 million.

Purchased for $120,000 as a yearling before selling for $825,000 at the NZB Ready to Run Sale, he has proven a rewarding investment at every stage of his career.

Star Turn has become a proven source of winners in Hong Kong, with his progeny recording 44 victories from just 22 runners, including Group 3 Sha Tin Vase winner Cordyceps Six.

His stock also attracted significant attention at the recent Inglis Ready2Race Sale, where Ricky Yiu went to $250,000 for a colt out of Group 3 winner Slightly Sweet.

All Too Hard gelding Ka Ying Lightning continued to underline his class, remaining unbeaten after recording his third consecutive victory for trainer David Hall.

Out of the Encosta De Lago mare Floating Heart, Ka Ying Lightning was another graduate of the NZB Ready to Run Sale, purchased by John Foote for $200,000. With earnings now exceeding $2.3 million, he has delivered an outstanding return for his connections and shapes as an exciting prospect for the future.

All Too Hard was also among the headline sires at the recent Inglis Ready2Race sale, with two lots each realising $500,000. Matt Vella Racing sold a gelding out of a half-sister to Savatiano to Hong Kong’s Upper Bloodstock, while a colt out of a half-sister to Stakes-placed Grey Missile was purchased by Hermitage Bloodstock.

The continued success of Farnan, Star Turn and All Too Hard in Hong Kong reinforces the international appeal of Vinery’s stallions, with their racetrack performance and strong sale-ring results creating opportunities for breeders across every level of the market.
