Miss Hipstar continues to firm for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic in response to a dominant dress-rehearsal at Ipswich on Christmas Eve.

The unbeaten daughter of Vinery freshman Star Turn ran her rivals off their legs in the Seven News Hcp (800m).  Starting a $1.50 favourite following a brilliant debut at Doomben, she clocked 45.32s for a half-mile coming home with a sizzling 32.06s sectional for the final 600m.

Miss Hipstar (2f Star Turn – Single Style by Not A Single Doubt) is now priced at $21 for the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (RL, 1200m) on Saturday, January 16.  “She jumped clean and has plenty of speed for a big unit,” trainer Kelly Schweida said.  “Once she found the fence in front, I knew it would take a pretty slick one to beat her.

“She won by a big space and they don’t do that very often over 800m here.  We’re up to about 11th in order of entry for the Magic Millions now.  I might give her one more run a week before the big one if a couple catapult over the top of us in the meantime.

“She’s a strong filly and backing up won’t be a problem.  Three of the last six winners have won a week beforehand so it’s a proven pattern.”

Miss Hipstar was bred by Vinery partner Steve McCann (Encompass Bloodstock) and sold through the stud’s draft for $150,000 at the 2019 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  Her dam Single Style was a 2yo stakes winner of the Keith Mackay Hcp LR at Randwick.

Leading jockey Larry Cassidy looked over his left shoulder and realised Thursday’s scamper was all over at the furlong.  “I have a high opinion of this filly.  She’s very exciting,” he said.  “She relaxes and will be a better chaser than a front-runner over more ground.”

A day before the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, Vinery (as agent) will sell McCann’s More Than Ready (USA) half-sister Miss Hipstar as Lot 800 at the Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale.  The filly is also a full-sister to Still Single who won at Randwick and was runner-up in a Sweet Embrace Stakes Gr.2 there last year.

Vinery sires have four hopefuls in TAB markets for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.  Baby Wong (Press Statement) is on the third-line at $11, Miss Hipstar (Star Turn) is at $21 while Astrologer (Star Turn) and You’ll Be Mist (Headwater) are at $26.

There are 11 yearlings by Star Turn catalogued for the 2021 Gold Coast Magic Millions and his trio from Vinery will be part of the farm’s on-site parades on December 29, 30, 31 and January 2 and 3.

The Vinery yearlings will be available for inspection at the Gold Coast (Stables H & I) from January 6.  Contact Adam White for more information on 0414 800 918.
