Baramul Stud owner Gerry Harvey is selling two outstanding Ole Kirk fillies during the first two sessions of the Gold Coast Magic Millions in January.
The Baramul filly on Day 1 is the first yearling to be sold at public auction by Vinery Stud’s Group 1 winning son of Written Tycoon. Parading as Lot 11, she is the second foal of Ostentatious Diva (Sepoy) who descends from Makybe Diva (Desert King).
Harvey also co-bred the Ole Kirk – Allez Wonder filly (Lot 414) being sold by Vinery Stud (as agent) on Day 2. The dam won a Group 1 Toorak Hcp (1600m) and has now foaled seven winners from seven to race including brilliant mare Mistress (More Than Ready) who blew them away in the Gold Coast Yearling Sale Hcp (1600m) at Wyong on Wednesday.
Baramul Stud’s Racing Manager Luke McDonald is prepping Ole Kirk’s first filly to parade as well as three colts and is sure she will get him off to a flyer. “Overall, Ole Kirk has really stamped them. They’re attractive and athletic and the filly is a nice shape and clean-boned. I would be very surprised if she doesn’t get up and run.”
Ostentatious Diva is by Sepoy (Elusive Quality) whose mares are going fantastic job. Her first foal is the Darby Racing 2yo filly Lovehunter (Spirit Of Boom) with Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott.
Harvey and Vinery partner Steve McCann breed from Allez Wonder with the best of her progeny to date being SAJC Breeders’ Stakes (Gr.3, 1200m) winner Kooweerup (More Than Ready). They haven’t looked back since buying the then 8yo mare sold for $750,000 at a Patinack Farm Dispersal.
The John O’Shea trained Mistress can add more black-type to the bottom-line according to agent Suman Hedge who bought her for $300,000 from Vinery (as agent) on behalf of Milburn Creek owner John Muir at the 2021 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.
“That was a fair price for the filly,” Hedge recalled. “She had all the hallmarks of a nice racehorse and broodmare to go on with at stud. She’s by More Than Ready which is always a great starting point. And Allez Wonder has done a really good job at stud.”
Milburn Creek has entered an Ole Kirk colt from Sepoy mare Glamorize (Lot 712) as one of its 14 yearlings being prepped for the Gold Coast. “He’s an early foal and has the maturity that’s a perfect fit for the January Sale,” Milburn Creek manager Scott Holcombe said on Friday.
“He’s a chestnut with a deep girth, strong shoulder and hindquarter.” The colt is also bred on a similar cross to his dam’s half-sister Written Beauty (Written Tycoon) who won a VRC Red Roses (Gr.3, 1100m) at Flemington for Team Hawkes.
