Star Turn’s Singapore-based sprinter Silent Is Gold has earned another start in black-type company following a narrow victory at Kranji on Saturday.

He veered out in the straight under 4kg apprentice Fahmi Rosman and had to survive an objection from second-placed War Pride (Tavistock).  “He was a bit keen in the back straight and he also wanted to lay out in the final furlong,” Rosman explained.  “That’s in his nature when horses come up to him but he was still strong to the line.

“He’s a quality horse and is very intelligent.”  Saturday’s victory was his fifth win in 15 starts for the Buddy Buddy Stable for earnings of $250,000.

Silent Is Gold (4g Star Turn – Confident by Not A Single Doubt) is trained by Stephen Gray and the Kiwi-born handler has him earmarked for the first-leg of the Singapore 4YO Challenge in the Silver Bowl (Gr.3, 1400m) on June 11.

“I told Fahmi to go forward and try to get a soft lead but he got taken on by War Pride.  He’s a lovely horse and always tries so hard.  We did look at the (Group 2) E W Barker Trophy last week but decided he was probably a shade below Super Salute who ended up winning that race.

“He can win a Group race for sure but there’s limited races for him here.  The Silver Bowl will be for him and he will have one lead-up before that.  He probably won’t run in all three lsegs because he’s more of a sprinter.”

Silent Is Gold is a compact, well-balanced 550kg-plus athlete and he earned black-type for the first time last year when runner-up to Golden Monkey (Star Turn) in the Singapore 3YO Sprint (LR, 1200m).

Vinery sire Star Turn got him from a Sydney-winning half-sister to Perignon (ATC Light Fingers Stakes Gr.2).  It’s the family of Rubidium (VRC Edward Manifold Stakes Gr.2) and Dash For Cash (VRC Australian Guineas Gr.1).
