A pair of impressive two-year-old winners by Vinery’s exciting son of Exceed And Excel, Exceedance, across two states on Wednesday signalled early promise of juvenile
black type success.
Leading the charge in Sydney was the Kris Lees-trained She’s Extra, who had already created a big impression with a dominant four-length debut win. She took the next step in her stride at metropolitan level at Warwick Farm, claiming the 1100m contest with authority.
Ridden confidently by Will Stanley on both occasions, the filly settled off the speed and relished the soft conditions, surging clear to defeat the
well-credentialled Promenade by more than three lengths.
“She’s a beautiful filly and does everything you want her to, she’s the ultimate professional,” said an elated Stanley.
Lees’ stable representative Danny Greer was equally enthusiastic in his praise.
“She was very impressive at Newcastle and warranted her opportunity in town and she was even better again today.
“She found a good position in the run and was strong late. She has plenty of promise going forward.”
A $60,000 purchase from Kooringal Stud at the Inglis Classic Sale for Lees Racing/Bahen Bloodstock, She’s Extra is a half-sister to stakes- placed Panzdown and smart metropolitan winner Shaggy. She is the sixth winner from seven to race out of the quality-producing Encosta de Lago mare Moonrush.
With untapped upside, the daughter of Exceedance holds entries for the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes and the Group 2 ATC Percy Sykes Stakes, where she shapes up as a filly capable of making a bold autumn statement.
Further north in the Sunshine State, another smart Exceedance juvenile emerged when Hard To Exceed produced a commanding debut victory at Doomben over 1110 metres.
Prepared by Peter Robl and retained to race by his breeder, the gelding made full use of an inside draw to control proceedings along the fence before powering clear to score by more than three lengths.
Following the impressive win, Rob indicated the colt would now be given a short break before targeting the Queensland winter features.
“The plan will be for him to go for a short three-week freshen-up to be back for the two-year-old feature races over the Queensland Winter Carnival,” Robl said.
Hard To Exceed is the first foal of metropolitan-winning All Too Hard mare Hard Labour, a half-sister to stakes-placed Sofie’s Gold Class, the dam of Group 3 winner Alpha Sofie. Hard Labour produced another colt by Exceedance last spring and is back in foal to him again.
The pair of juvenile wins gives Exceedance six winners in the past 10 days with plenty of black-type promise beckoning.
