Sunshine Coast trainer Darryl Hansen will raise the bar with confidence heading towards the Magic Millions 2YO Classic RL with You’ll Be Mist.

The Headwater filly is assured of a start in the $2 million sprint at the Gold Coast on January 16.  She is currently 9th in ballot order with prizemoney of $81,700 and is pre-post priced at $26.

You’ll Be Mist (2f Headwater – Dalnabec by Arena) has won both her starts on home turf with a turn of foot that has impressed Hansen and jockey Robbie Fradd.  Last time out in the Access Insulaton Hcp (1000m), she won a prolonged speed battle from the gates and then won when it counted with another kick at the furlong.

“She’s pulled up fine after Friday’s win and it’s straight into the Magic Millions Classic,” Hansen’s partner Amy Bowden reported on Tuesday.  “She ran home strongly and Robbie said she gave him a great feel.

You’ll Be Mist is owned by Peter & Lynette Lawlor in a family partnership and was a bargain buy at the 2020 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  “Darryl said she caught their eye down in Book 2,” Bowden added.  “It was getting near the end of the sale and they got her for $18,000.”

Grandview Thoroughbreds studmaster Michael Grieve sold her on behalf of Glen Swift who boards his mares and helps out at the Peak Crossing property south of Ipswich.  “She’s a lovely, good-natured filly,” Grieve said.  “Glen decided to sell at the Magic Millions even though the market was getting a bit sticky by that part of Book 2.

“Now we’re all excited to see her going so well.”

Headwater (Exceed And Excel) covered a full-book at Vinery this year and he has 10 yearlings entered for the Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale starting on Tuesday, January 12.
