The first foals of Vinery Stud sire Exceedance have been met with unqualified approval by breeders around Australia.
An explosive Group 1 winning sprinter by breed-shaping sire Exceed And Excel, Exceedance was fully subscribed in his initial book last year covering upwards of 140 mares.
Here’s just a sample of how breeders have reacted to the Exceedance foals starting with his first to arrive – the colt from Catchulata.
Bay Colt Exceedance x Catchulata by Charge Forward
From a winning three-quarter sister to Response (VRC Matron Stakes Gr.3) who foaled Estijaab (ATC Golden Slipper Stakes Gr.1). His 2yo half-brother by Russian Revolution has been catalogued for the Inglis Ready2Race Sale on October 26.
“We were so impressed with Exceedance on the track and in the flesh. Our colt is a beautiful sight and is the mare’s best foal to date.” Royston & Catriona Murphy / Sledmere Stud
Bay Filly Exceedance x Miss Toorak Flyer by Toorak Toff
Rosemont Stud backed Exceedance with seven mares and the filly from Jason Warren’s four-time winner Miss Toorak Flyer was the first to arrive on August 15. It’s the family of Stakes winners Secret Flyer & Luvaluva (Flemington) and Almazyoon (Randwick).
“The Miss Toorak Toff filly is an eye-catcher. Lovely hip and shoulder and as good a foal as you could want. Our Exceedance filly from Bim Bam Boom (I Am Invincible) looks a very sharp type, too.” Ryan McEvoy / Rosemont Stud
Bay Colt Exceedance x Amplified by All Too Hard
The first foal from the 11 mares booked into Exceedance by Gerry Harvey. Dam a half-sister to Always Allison (ATC Sweet Embrace Stakes Gr.2). Second-dam a winning half-sister to Benicio (VRC Victoria Derby Gr.1).
“He’s a ripper. An absolute ripper! A well-developed colt and we rated him an 8 out 10 which is at the upper end of the scale. That’s no surprise because Exceedance is such a good-looking stallion.” Luke McDonald / Baramul Stud
Bay Colt Exceedance x Awesome Planet by Giant’s Causeway
Half-brother to Awesome Rock (VRC Emirates Stakes Gr.1) bred by Gold Front Thoroughbreds owners Alan & Sue Olive. The WA-based couple have booked Awesome Planet into Vinery newcomer Ole Kirk this season.
“We’re very happy with him. Strong with plenty of leg and a lovely profile. The dam’s doing a good job. She’s not a big mare but Exceedance has put some size into this colt.” David Morrissey / Cannon Hayes Stud
Bay Filly Exceedance x Lovetorn by Giant’s Causeway
From an Australian-bred, South African Stakes winning half-sister to Lovemelikearock (NJC Spring Stakes Gr.3). Extended family of Group 1 champions Adjal, Arazi, Formidable, Flying Partner, etc.
“Exceedance is a big chance at stud when he leaves foals like this filly. She’s all quality with size, strength, scope and a fantastic action.” John Kenneally / Erinvale Thoroughbreds
Bay Colt Exceedance x Quaintly by Giant’s Causeway
Dam won in Ireland and Group 3 placed at Hollywood Park. A Highgrove Stud import from Kentucky, she descends from the family of champion sire Sadler’s Wells.
“I’ve catalogued all the mare’s foals as yearlings. They sell well and her Exceedance is a stylish colt. Her first Australian foal was More Than Ready filly Miss Quaintly and she was a 2yo winner at Doomben & Sunshine Coast.” Ron Gilbert / Highgrove Stud
Exceedance finished Top 5 among First-season covering sires at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in June. The record-breaking Gold Coast auction included seven mares in foal to the Vinery stallion and they sold to $280,000 at an average of $143,571.
Vinery stands Exceedance for $33,000 (inc GST) with payment on a live foal. For bookings or further information, please contact Adam White (0414 800 918) or Harry Roach (0401 970 006).
