Corumbene Stud owner George Altomonte bred another Vinery Stud-sired feature winner when Rapt raced away with the Grafton Guineas (1600m) on Wednesday.

Rapt is from the final southern-hemisphere crop of Vinery legend More Than Ready (USA) and looks a promising filly for trainer Jason Deamer and Dynamic Syndications.  She has already paid back a $130,000 price-tag at the 2022 Gold Coast Magic Millions and is on a hat-trick for a Ladies Syndicate following a Scone win earlier this month.

She’s taken off since winkers were applied and is an adaptable filly having scored on a Heavy 10 at Scone.  “That last win was a real confidence booster,” winning jockey Ash Morgan said at Grafton.  “The step up to a mile has also helped and she’s best ridden stone cold.  I left her alone early and then let her rip after finding clear air in the straight.  She’s thriving and flew home today.”

Rapt (3f More Than Ready – Ghenwaa by Street Cry) is a three-quarter sister to More Than Ready filly Haybah who won the SAJC Cinderella Stakes (LR, 1050m) for Lindsay Park in 2015.  There’s stamina further down the page through Group 1 Victoria Derby and South Australian Derby winner Rebel Raider (Reset).

Altomonte is a long-time Vinery Stud client having bred More Than Ready’s 2008 Golden Slipper Stakes winner Sebring, 2012 Canonbury Stakes winner Raceway, 2015 The Nivison winner Nayeli and 2018 Gold Coast Silk Stocking winner Anatola.

The Corumbene Stud owner also weighed in with $525,000 to buy BRC Roses (Gr.2, 2000m) winner Vanna Girl (Husson) from Vinery (as agent) at the 2022 Inglis Chairman’s Sale.

More Than Ready sired his 228th individual Stakes winner on Saturday when Spaliday made her black-type debut a successful one in the Boiling Springs Stakes (LR, 1700m) at Monmouth Park.  The Kentucky-bred 3yo is trained by Chad Brown for owner Peter Brant and the addition of blinkers made all the difference according to stable foreman Luis Cabrera.  “We breezed her with blinkers and she keeps getting better.  The fractions were honest so I wasn’t too concerned with how far away she was in the back stretch.”

Spaliday is bred in the purple as a daughter of the Brown-trained Eclipse Award winner Dayatthespa (City Zip).  She won three times at the elite level topped by the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Santa Anita.
