Headwater sprinter Capre Omnia can climb rapidly through the grades off the back of a maiden victory in the Go Nagambie Plate (1200m) at Seymour.

Trainer Mitch Freeman was still walking on air before the Seymour breakthrough on Ocober 22 having not long prepared his first Group 1 winner with Attrition (Churchill) in the Toorak Hcp (1600m) at Caulfield.  The Ballarat-based conditioner gives Capre Omnia the chance to start rising up the ranks after nominating him for races at Moonee Valley this Friday evening and Mornington on Sunday.

Capre Omnia (Latin for seize everything) was sent out a $1.60 favourite at Seymour and hit the line nicely following a tough run up the home straight under John Allen.  Stewards reported he was severely hampered when Downtown Man shifted out abruptly at the furlong.

“He had to do it the hard way after not beginning as well as planned and settling in the back half of the field,” Freedman said.  “He built into the race strongly and hit even more strife in the straight but was still far too good winning by over a length, eased down.”

Freedman has had to play a long game with the lightly-raced Capre Omnia who was a $70,000 buy from Kitchwin Hills at the 2021 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.  Among the partners is first-time winning owner Jude Almedia.  “He suffered an injury setback and that meant I ended up with a larger than anticipated share in the horse.  We’ve been patient and hopefully we can now reap the rewards because he has enough talent to keep winning.”

Capre Omnia was bred by Vinery partner Neil Werrett as was his full-brother Tronic Almighty who was Happy Valley winner last month for trainer Jamie Richards and jockey Zac Purton.  Their dam Kee De Vega (Lope De Vega) has a 2yo filly and yearling colt by Prince Of Caviar who is a son of Sebring and Werrett icon Black Caviar.

Werrett also has last week’s Rosehill trial winner Candy Women nominated to debut at Newcastle this Saturday.  The 3yo daughter of Headwater is trained by Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou and is bred to go early on both sides of her pedigree.

Her dam Sugar Rush (More Than Ready) was a 2yo winner for Gai Waterhouse and second-dam Sugar Babe (Exceed And Excel) won a Dubutants Stakes (LR, 1000m) at Caulfield for Lee Freeman and finished sixth in that season’s Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr.1, 1200m) won by Sebring.

Headwater (Exceed And Excel) sired his first 2yo winner of the season when Age Of Aquarius led all the way on debut in the Pallarenda Stakes (1000m) at Townsville on Saturday.

Age Of Aquarius (2g Headwater – Miss Pocket Rocket by Smart Missile) is trained by Tash Chambers for owner-breeder Dianne Cooper.  The time-honoured Pallarenda Stakes has launched the careers of numerous top-class gallopers and Chambers will set him for a Brisbane juvenile event next month.

“I’ve always wanted to win a Pallarenda,” she said.  “He came to me from scratch and it’s satisfying to produce one so early in the season.”
