Adelaide trainers Richard and Chantelle Jolly sent their perfect strike-rate with Headwater to the next level when Aitch Two Oh won the Without Fear Stakes (LR, 1050m) on Saturday.

The Jollys have also won with the Vinery sire’s sons Keep Reading and Karacasu and his precocious daughter gave them a black-type first during the Group 1 meeting on their home track at Morphettville.

“We’ve had good luck with the Headwaters,” Richard Jolly said.  “Every one that we’ve purchased has won so we will keep buying them.  Aitch Two Oh was an athletic yearling and now she’s a valuable filly with a pedigree.”

Aitch Two Oh was bred and sold by Baramul Stud for $65,000 at the 2021 Adelaide Magic Millions.  Baramul owner Gerry Harvey kept a share and Magic Millions Perth Manager David Houston is also in the winning syndicate.

Her dam Very Dogmatic (Swiss Ace) is a full-sister to Mywayorthehighway (GCTC Vo Rogue Plate (Gr.3, 1200m) and she has a yearling colt by Press Statement and a filly foal by All Too Hard.

Aitch Two Oh has banked $178,425 to date from three wins in four starts although there were some anxious moments before she prevailed by a short-neck over Winning Revolution.  Third-placed Prairie Flower earned her first black-type for Vinery sire Star Turn when finishing a further length away.

“She didn’t know how to put the other filly away,” Jolly added.  “She got the better of her but it was a nail-biter.”

Aitch Two Oh is the 5th Stakes winner by Headwater and she will head to the David Coles Stakes (Gr.3, 1200m) at Morphettville in a fortnight.  Among her rivals will be stablemate See You In Heaven who inflicted her only defeat in last month’s Dequetteville Stakes (LR, 1050m).

Headwater is also vying for black-type updates at the Brisbane winter carnival with his top-class filly Jamaea.  She finished third to stablemate Count De Rupee first-up in the Victory Stakes Gr.2 at Eagle Farm last week and will be primed for Group 1 targets in the Kingsford-Smith Cup (May 28) and Stradbroke Hcp (June 11).
