Renowned for consistently producing elite juveniles, Vinery has struck again with another timely Magic Millions graduate, as Lara Antipova delivered a dominant victory in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes at just her second career start at Trentham on Saturday.
A dazzling eight-length winner on debut less than a fortnight earlier at Te Aroha, the Mark Walker and Sam Burgerson-trained filly has made a stunning start to her racing career, quickly progressing from impressive maiden winner to Stakes-class performer.
Sent out a $1.20 favourite, the daughter of Russian Revolution sat just off the leader before jockey Craig Grylls asked her to quicken approaching the turn with the filly responding in style, bounding clear to score by an emphatic four and a half lengths.
Trainer Sam Burgerson was understandably delighted with the performance.
“She is a very exciting filly and she’s just kept on giving the more we’ve asked of her.”
“Hopefully she can keep progressing and target some very nice races.”
“We had a discussion and, win, lose or draw, we felt a short freshen-up would be the right move. She’ll probably head towards the Matamata Breeders’ (Gr.2, 1200m) and then look at the Group Ones,” Burgerson added.
Lara Antipova was purchased for $100,000 from Vinery’s Magic Millions draft by Te Akau Racing principal David Ellis in partnership with Fortuna Racing.
Bred by Eden Harrington, Lara Antipova is the best of four winners from five foals to race from Artistic Lass, a metropolitan-winning daughter of Myboycharlie (IRE) and a half-sister to Group winners Sistine Angel and Sistine Demon.
Vinery Stud will offer the current yearling colt by In The Congo out of Artistic Lass at the Inglis Classic Sale as Lot 641.
Lara Antipova joins an outstanding list of Vinery-sourced Magic Millions value buys at $150,000 or less, including recent Group 3 winner Spicy Lu ($30,000), Miss Hipster ($150,000), Artorius ($120,000), Cellargirl ($90,000), Jupiter Gold ($130,000), Deep Image ($150,000) and Turbo Miss ($120,000).
She is also the second pre-Christmas Stakes performer from Vinery’s 2025 Magic Millions draft, following Mystical (Exceed And Excel x Rainbow Falls), who finished second in the Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic earlier this month.
Vinery will present 26 outstanding yearlings at the 2026 Magic Millions Sale. To view the full draft, click here.
