Star Turn’s Alsephina (6m x Delta Gee by Street Cry) has been promising bigger and better things as she climbed the ranks in Western Australia.

After a narrow second in the Gr.1 Railway Stakes at Ascot, a spell, and a Flemington placing in the Gr.2 Let’s Elope Stakes first up, Alsephina had form on her side when she lined up in the Gr.2 Ladbrokes Stocks Stakes over 1500m at Moonee Valley on Friday.

Jumping from the widest barrier with jockey Blake Shinn in the saddle, she had to take a sit and work across to the fence, patiently making her way through the gaps to claim a position about mid field, one off the fence. On the turn there was a wall of horses in front of her while she was trying to wind up but when a gap finally appeared at the 150m mark she exploded and had the turn of foot to flash home and take the win by almost a length.

“She likes to be ridden like that. When we got out, she exploded,” Shinn said. “Bigger things in store coming in the spring carnival.”

The Grant and Alana Williams trained 6yo has now taken her record of 10 wins and six placings from 17 starts with prizemoney just shy of $1million. That figure could soon increase with her big Spring target being the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes at Flemington.

Bred by G & G Bloodstock, Alsephina is the best of three winners from as many to race out of the Stakes-winning Street Cry (Ire) mare Delta Gee who was a placegetter in the Gr.3 Matron S. and the Gr.3 Tesio S.

Star Turn has now recorded six Stakes winners so far this season and has nine Stakes winners from his four crops racing, headed by Gr.1 Tatt’s Tiara winner Startantes.

Star Turn stands for a fee of $27,500 inc. GST again this season, which is not payable until you get a live foal. Call Adam, Harry, McKoy or Peter on (02) 6543 8333 to discuss your mare(s).
