Exceedance – Madotti colt
Australian Bloodstock Directors Jamie Lovett and Luke Murrell know all about sourcing feature winners for their syndicates and they’re confident about an Exceedance colt that’s just been named Madecci.
Vinery Stud stallion Exceedance will have his first-crop 2yo colts and fillies ready to debut in the spring and they expect Madecci to be among them. “He broke in beautifully and had a couple of quick preps with Kris Lees,” Lovett said. “He’s back from the farm again and is full of himself. He’s a good style of colt and has the temperament to go early.”
His dam Madotti (Falvelon) was an October 2yo winner at Doomben for Matthew Dunn and she trained on for a 3yo victory in the Vo Rogue Plate (Gr.3, 1300m) at the Gold Coast.
Glenlogan Park bred Madecci and he was as an eye-catcher from Day 1. “He was an absolutely outstanding foal,” manager Steve Morley recalled. “I rang Vinery and told Peter Orton to mark it down as the day your first Exceedance winner was born.”
Exceedance – Croatian filly
In-form Muswellbrook trainer Todd Howlett is looking forward to transferring his team to new stables at Singleton and among his newcomers is the Exceedance – Croatian (High Chaparral) filly that cost $250,000 from Baramul Stud at the Gold Coast Magic Millions.
She is a half-sister to Lindsay Park filly Croatian Belle who won two early-season nurseries at Moonee Valley last December. They descend from the ‘Leica’ family through Dansino who was a Flemington 2yo winner of the Talindert Stakes (LR, 1100m).
“She is owned by Sean Dyson and I was very pleased with her first prep,” Howlett said. “She’s an athletic filly and is back in work after a break. Sean is developing a racing property just outside of Singleton and hopefully this filly helps get us off to a good start.”
Howlett and Randwick Bloodstock agent Brett Howard saw off competition from Lindsay Park and agent James Bester to land the filly on the Gold Coast. “She’s just a really nice filly and was popular off the half-sister’s wins in Melbourne last month,” Howard said at the Magic Millions. “And hearing the names of the underbidders lets you know you’re on the right track.”
Exceedance – Sweet Melody filly
Trainer Travis Doudle has resurrected Star Turn sprinter Pegasi for two recent wins at Morphettville and he’s taking a softy, softly approach with an Exceedance filly purchased at the Adelaide Magic Millions.
Bred by David Toole at Kambula Stud, the filly is one of five yearlings he bought for stable client Rob Chapman. Her dam Sweet Melody (Tavistock) was bred by Sir Patrick Hogan and she won on both sides of the Tasman and her first foal, Capital Legend (Capitalist), won first-up in Hong Kong for trainer Caspar Fownes earlier this season.
“Suman Hedge and I marked her very highly at the Sale,” Doudle recalled. “She’s broke in really well and is a nice, leggy filly. She’s still growing so we’re not in too much of a rush. We will get her going in the autumn.”
