Magic Millions Bloodstock Manager Dane Robinson is excited to present the first yearlings by Vinery Stud sire Exceedance at the Gold Coast Sale commencing on Tuesday, January 10.
“The Gold Coast is renowned as a prolific first-season sire Sale and we targeted Exceedance,” Robinson said. “He sires outstanding, early precocious types and they’ve been well-received by the market, especially the homebred yearlings we’ve inspected at Vinery.
“Exceedance was a class 2yo and came back as a 3yo to defeat Bivouac first-up in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill. He raced against and beat the best culminating in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington.”
Exceedance (Exceed And Excel) has 20 yearlings spread between Vinery and eight other vendors from NSW, Queensland and Victoria. His Day 1 consignment is a blockbuster starting with the Edinglassie Thoroughbreds colt from More Than Ready (USA) mare Legal Eagle (Lot 53).
Bivouac carries the Exceed And Excel – More Than Ready cross and the Edinglassie colt is from a full-sister to Dreamaway (WATC Derby Gr.1, 2400m). “I remember Exceedance winning his first start at the provincials,” Edinglassie studmaster Mick Talty said. “He was a long way back but got to the outside to defeat the smart filly Blazing Miss. That turn of foot was the thing that attracted me to Exceedance.”
Glenlogan Park manager Steve Morley is prepping an Exceedance colt (Lot 88) that has been an eye-catcher from Day 1. His dam Madotti (Falvelon) had won to Group 3 level in the Vo Rogue Plate (1300m) at the Gold Coast.
“He was an absolutely outstanding foal,” Morley recalled. “I rang Vinery and told Peter Orton to mark it down as the day your first Exceedance winner was born.”
Vinery has two Exceedance colts on Day 1 with the son of Meow (Lot 110) also from a mare by Vinery legend More Than Ready (USA). “He’s a typical Exceedance – strong and forward,” Vinery’s Bloodstock Manager Adam White said. “His older half-sister by Spirit Of Boom sold to Cliff Brown for $440,000 at this year’s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.
“Exceedance sires athletes with scope, strength and substance. We’ve been really impressed with them and the feedback from our clients has been terrific.”
Kia Ora Stud sold All Too Hard’s Champion Hong Kong Sprinter Wellington on the Gold Coast and their Exceedance colt (Lot 140) also has an elite pedigree through his dam Miss Wilson who won a Group 1 in the NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes at Te Aroha. Miss Wilson (Stratum) is a half-sister to NZ Horse of the Year and Group 1 sire Jimmy Choux (Thorn Park).
“He’s beautifully-bred and the cross with that Kiwi family infused strength and tenacity,” Kia Ora Bloodstock Manager Shane Wright said. “He’s a nice, tall leggy colt who won’t be early, early but his sire and dam were both explosive sprinters.”
The Exceedance colt from Kitchwin Hills (Lot 181) on Day 1 is the first foal from Never More Lady (No Nay Never) whose older half-sister Excelorada (Exceed And Excel) won a Summer Scorcher (LR, 1000m) in Perth.
“Our two colts by Exceedance at the Magic Millions are outstanding,” Kitchwin Hills manager Mick Malone claimed. “I’ve also seen many others around the farms and you would be very comfortable taking an Exceedance yearling to the Magics or Easter or anywhere else.”
