The first filly foal offered at public auction by Exceedance made $105,000 at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale on Thursday.
Exceedance has 95 foals on the ground from his initial book at Vinery Stud and breeders are booking back to the Group 1 winning sprinter after seeing the quality of his first foals. Among them is the Finniefeirme-consigned filly (Lot 103) that was purchased by Queensland-based Emerald Equine at Riverside Stables.
“We like Exceedance and our filly is a really good type from a fast family,” Finniefeirme’s Marieke Schnebeli said. “We contemplated whether to sell her as a weanling or wait until the yearling sales but it’s a hot market and we took a chance.”
Finniefeirme is owned by Denis Hanley and is situated at Kulnura, 80km north of Sydney in the Yarramalong Valley. He bought the filly’s dam Diamond Meteor (Northern Meteor) for $30,000 from Kingstar Farm at the 2020 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale. “Denis wants to be seen as someone who meets the market and we couldn’t be happier with the result,” Schnebeli added. “Jimmy Unwala (Avesta Bloodstock) said she was one of the nicest Exceedance foals he had seen around the Hunter.”
Trilogy Racing’s Jason and Mel Stenning paid $80,000 for the Exceedance – All Too Free colt (Lot 12) offered by Kia-Ora Stud. His dam won at Canterbury for Snowden Racing and is a half-sister to the Redoute’s Choice Stakes winners Ravi and Elzaam.
The Stennings, in partnership with China Horse Club and Newgate Bloodstock, bought the More Than Ready – Rosenet colt from Vinery (as agent) for $425,000 at the Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale in January.
The Exceedance – Awesome Planet colt (Lot 34) that just failed to meet a $150,000 reserve will return to Cannon Hayes Stud in Scone and be re-offered as a yearling in the Eastern States or Perth. He’s a half-brother to Group 1 winner Awesome Rock and is owned by Alan & Sue Olive of Gold Front Thoroughbreds in Western Australia.
Exceedance (Exceed And Excel) has another nine first-crop foals catalogued for the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale starting on May 19. First to parade on the Gold Coast is the filly from More Than Ready winner Seismic Warning (Lot 37) being offered by Vinery (as agent) for Queensland couple Paul and Lyn Maguire.
Vinery stands Exceedance for a $33,000 (inc GST) service fee. For bookings or further information, please contact Adam White (0414 800 918) or Harry Roach (0401 970 006).
