Monday marked the end of another exceptional Inglis Easter Yearling Sale for Vinery with 12 yearlings selling over two days for a total of $6,220,000 and an average of $518,000, and the farm finishing in the Top 10 Vendors for the fifth year in a row.
This year’s draft was highlighted by four lots selling for $850,000. The first of these was Lot 58, a full sister to talented multiple Stakes-winning colt Growing Empire. By Zoustar out of the Stakes performed mare Miles Of Krishnan, the filly was knocked down to New Zealand’s Dean Hawthorne
Lot 75 followed soon after, with the filly by Champion Sire I Am Invincible out of Mousai selling to bloodstock agent Jim Clarke and Ridgemont Farm who were still celebrating the success of Stefi Magnetica, a daughter of Vinery’s All Too Hard, in Saturday’s Group 1 Doncaster Mile.
The third lot to realise $850,000 was 109, a cracking colt by Too Darn Hot (GB) out of the Group 1 Coolmore Classic winner Plucky Belle. Bred by the Esplin family, he joins the stable of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott in partnership with Tony Fung Investments and Kestral Thoroughbreds.
Lot 162 rounded out the quartet, with the filly by I Am Invincible out of multiple Group 1 winner Sierra Sue (NZ) also going to way of Dean Hawthorne.
Other names to feature on Vinery’s buyers sheet over the two days include some of the global industry’s biggest players such as Coolmore, China Horse Club and Newgate, South Africa’s Craig Ramsay and Moody Racing.
Rising star on the roster and Australia’s leading First Season Sire Ole Kirk also enjoyed an outstanding sale. The stallion achieved a 100% clearance rate with nine lots selling for an average of $332,222 – over six times his service fee – highlighted by Lot 246, the full sister to the 2YO Magic Millions Wyong and Classic winner O’ Ole, selling for $650,000.
The filly captured the attention of astute UK-based bloodstock agent Johnny McKeever on behalf of Lord Andrew and Lady Madeleine Lloyd-Webber’s Watership Down Stud, who also happen to race Group 2 winner and Vinery graduate Too Darn Lizzie.
