Vinery will unveil the first yearlings by its Group 1 sprinter Star Turn at the Gold Coast Magic Millions and the stud’s bloodstock manager Adam White believes, as a group, they are ready-made racehorses.

Star Turn has six yearlings from Vinery in Book 1 plus three exceptional colts from Edinglassie Thoroughbreds, Glenlogan Park and Westbury Stud.

“They’re well-developed and more mature than you would normally expect leading into the Magic Millions,” White said.  “Star Turn was a $400,000 Magic Millions graduate himself and his yearlings will suit a January Sale.”

Star Turn was among the fastest 2yo colts of his generation, winning a Randwick nursery with a superior turn of foot, and he returned as a 3yo with a dominant performance in the San Domenico Stakes Gr.3 at Rosehill.

Sent to Melbourne, he produced another sizzling burst of acceleration to dominate the Schillaci Stakes Gr.2 at weight-for-age against older horses and then signed off his spring campaign with an unlucky third in the Coolmore Stud Stakes Gr.1 at Flemington.

And he didn’t dodge a soul the following autumn in Melbourne, running Group 1 placings against more seasoned rivals in the Lightning Stakes and Newmarket Hcp at Flemington and William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley

Star Turn was the only 3yo colt of his generation to take on older sprinters at the autumn carnivals.

Put together, he’s a powerhouse and his Day 1 colts at the Magic Millions include Westbury Stud’s well-bred yearling from County Court (Lot 201).  General manager Russell Warwick has a team of 18 yearlings heading to the Gold Coast and their preps were split between NZ and NSW.

Westbury’s Star Turn colt is from a Fastnet Rock half-sister to Savabeel.  “We sent the NZ yearlings across a week before Christmas and I was very happy after seeing him for the first time,” Warwick said.  “There’s plenty of scope and there’s a lovely rhythm about him.”

Glenlogan Park’s Star Turn – Dukemore colt (Lot 258) is bred to go early.  He’s from a half-sister to Widden Stakes LR winner Superfly.

Edinglassie manager Mick Talty is glad he’s on board for the Magic Millions with the colt out of Fast ‘N’ Twitty (Lot 300) on Day 2.  “He’s a beautiful mover with strong forearms and gaskins,” Talty commented.  “He’s a half-brother to Tony McEvoy’s 2yo Deep Speed who was favourite for the Maribyrnong Trial but was a late scratching at the barrier.”

Fast ‘N’ Twitty is a Fastnet Rock mare from the Crystal Lily family and her colt is the only Star Turn that Talty is prepping for the Gold Coast.  “I like Star Turn.  He was a superb athlete and our mare Hostile Witness (Street Sense) foaled a Star Turn colt in September.  He will be in our draft next year.”

Adam White rates the Star Turn fillies from Sanaya (Lot 723) and Single Style (Lot 776) among the highlights from Vinery on Day 3 at the Gold Coast.  “Sanaya is a More Than Ready mare and her filly was forward enough to generate lots of favourable comments at our yearling parades.  And the Star Witness sireline works with More Than Ready.”

Not A Single Doubt stakes winner Single Style (NZ) is two-for-two at stud and her More Than Ready filly Still Single looked a rising star when winning a Randwick maiden in October.  Trainer Chris Waller decided to throw her in at the deep end but she was still a bit new in stakes races at Randwick and Flemington.

“Single Style’s filly could be back at the Gold Coast for next year’s Magic Millions Classic,” White declared.  “She’s a well-conditioned, strong filly and looks an early 2yo.”

Vinery’s yearlings are housed in Stables H and I at the Magic Millions sale ground on the Gold Coast.
