Trainer David Jolly will consider a black-type turnaround for his Star Turn filly Prairie Flower in the Nitschke Stakes (LR, 1400m) back at Morphettville next weekend.

Prairie Flower won like a professional in Saturday’s Thomas Farms Hcp (1200m) at her second start for Jolly in Adelaide this month.  “Her previous trainer Henry Dwyer sent her across to get a win and a bit of confidence,” Jolly said.  “She’s already earned black-type and Henry was looking to place her at the right level.

“We took the blinkers off today and I think it showed she’s looking for longer that those 1000m and 1100m races.”

Apart from Nitschke Stakes, her connections have alternatives in the Tobin Bronze Stakes (Gr.2, 1200m) and Proud Miss Stakes (Gr.3, 1200m) during May.  She’s raced by a large syndicate under the management of Wayne Kratzmann after making $120,000 at the 2021 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

Prairie Flower (3f Star Turn – Leotie by Darci Brahma) is out of a three-quarter sister-in-blood to MVRC Alexandra Stakes (LR, 1600m) winner Marianne (Darci Brahma) and was offered by Maluka Thoroughbreds (as agent) at Oaklands.  She was bred by Geoff Guest and Jill Kewish at Rockmount in Victoria’s Strathbogie Ranges.  They had purchased the 200-acre property from Vinery in 2005.

Winning jockey Will Price had piloted Prairie Flower to her most recent victory at the start of this season at Ballarat.  “She jumped, held a spot right behind the leader (Floral Oasis) and didn’t put a foot wrong today,” he said.  “I came off of the back of Lachie (Neindorf) and she was coiled up ready to strike.”

Vinery sire Star Turn also supplied minor-placegetter Starsongari who has Written By half-sister on offer from Riversdale Stud (Lot 109) at the HTBA Yearling Sale at Riverside Stable this Sunday, April 23.

Star Turn has 9 yearlings of his own including the Vinery colt from Granados (Encosta de Lago). Catalogued as Lot 39 (as agent), he’s from an Eagle Farm-winning daughter of South Australian Oaks (Gr.1, 2500m) winner Larrocha (Danehill).
