Vinery Stud is on the threshold of an exciting new era with its young, up and coming Group 1-winning stallions Ole Kirk and Exceedance.

They are part of a six-strong roster, alongside All Too Hard, Star Turn, Headwater and Casino Prince, offering breeders a stallion for every mare and every budget. “The feedback has been positive but we’re mindful it’s not always easy for breeders,” Vinery Bloodstock Manager Adam White said.  “For that reason, none of our service fees have been increased this year.”

Vinery’s reputation as one of the leading farms in the Hunter Valley was reinforced at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale by a Top 5 finish with a turnover of $8.45million. That followed a very successful sale at the Gold Coast Magic Millions in January when turnover topped $6million.

Ole Kirk was a Group 1 winner of the Golden Rose and Caulfield Guineas and is by Champion Australian sire (Written Tycoon), from a full-sister to Black Caviar and half-sister to Vinery sire All Too Hard. His outstanding first foals will be first seen at next month’s Inglis Australian Weanling Sale (15 Lots) and Magic Millions National Weanling Sale (12 Lots).

Exceedance’s first yearlings landed in all the right stables. They sold to $370,000 at the Gold Coast and his Inglis Easter filly ($380,000) and colt ($300,000) were purchased by Gai Waterhouse and Team Hawkes, the latter having trained him to a stallion-making victory in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington.

All Too Hard is an established Top 10 stallion in Australia and Hong Kong thanks to an ever-increasing winning strike rate led by multiple Group 1 winners Alligator Blood, Wellington Forbidden Love and Behemoth. His career strike rate is a sky-high 68%. His current yearling crop have been selling to more than 10 times his service fee and they averaged $325,000 at the Inglis Easter Sale.

Star Turn is flying with 15 Stakes horses from just three crops racing, headed by Group 1 winner Startantes, Cordyceps Six, Alsephina, Me Me Lagarde, Saltaire, etc. He also owns the best winning strike rate among Australia’s third season sires (67 winners – 119 starters).  Star Turn’s 2023 yearlings have averaged over $104,000 off a $15,000 service fee in 2020 – that’s almost 7 times fee.

Headwater is as reliable as clockwork and his latest Stakes winner, Little Miss Kubi (SAJC Manihi Classic LR), is his 12th black type galloper among a growing list that includes Group winners Jamaea, Mileva, Aitch Two Oh and Wisdom Of Water. He generates speed-on-speed as a son of multiple Champion sire Exceed And Excel and Group 1 Oakleigh Plate winner River Dove.

Casino Prince is a prolific winner-getter and is one of the most successful sires of the Highway and Midway series in NSW. His elevated strike rate (71%) is headed by 23 Stakes winners and he remains a favourite for broodmare owners who breed to race.
