Press Statement 3yo filly Confessed gave Vinery partner Steve McCann double reason to celebrate when she won her maiden running away at Scone.
Confessed, who is trained by Kris Lees in Newcastle, had weighed in at her first two starts last month and appreciated stepping up in distance for the Horsepower Hcp (1300m) on Friday. She powered home to score by over a length from Dom Tycoon (Written Tycoon) and Still In Fashion (Redoute’s Choice) with Andrew Gibbons in the saddle.
The Scone card was highlighted by the Exceedance at Vinery Hcp (1400m) which was won by Mother’s Mercy (Redoute’s Choice).
Press Statement sired Confessed at Vinery from McCann’s mare Absolvent (Encosta De Lago) who is a half-sister to Krupt (STC Todman Stakes Gr.2) and Anevay (VRC Talindert Stakes LR).
Vinery will offer a More Than Ready – Absolvent colt, as agent for McCann (Encompass Bloodstock), at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale starting on February 7. He has been catalogued as Lot 440.
Absolvent has already thrown Queensland winners by More Than Ready and All Too Hard.
“More Than Ready is a true legend, one of the most successful shuttle stallions of all time,” McCann said on Monday. “I sent a large number of mares to him in his twilight years at Vinery and have a number of quality yearlings by him.
“The Absolvent colt is going to Inglis Classic and the More Than Ready yearlings catalogued for the Gold Coast Magic Millions are from mares including Allez Wonder, Fill Me Up, Single Style, Sharpness and Lasoron.”
More Than Ready has 8 yearlings entered from his penultimate Australian crop for the Gold Coast Sale commencing on Tuesday, January 12. One of the early first-session stars is Vinery’s chestnut filly (as agent) from Group 1 winner Allez Wonder (Lot 34).
Allez Wonder has already thrown More Than Ready’s Group 3 winner Kooweerup for McCann. He sold her through Vinery at the 2018 Magic Millions and was rewarded with a winning $650,000 bid by Yu Long Investments.
Another McCann-bred filly by the Vinery legend is the half-sister to exciting Star Turn filly Miss Hipstar (Single Style) who cruised home to win on debut at Doomben last month. She has been catalogued through Vinery as Lot 800.
Meanwhile, Press Statement is vying for a Top 5 spot on the Australian second season sires table by winners with 11 individual winners. His Vinery barn-mate Headwater and Darley sire Pride Of Dubai are high-balling on top with 20 winners apiece.
