All Too Hard sired his latest Hong Kong feature winner when Keefy scored a commanding victory in the Chevalier Cup (1600m) on Sunday.

Keefy cleared out to score by more than three lengths in 1:33.42s which was a second faster than the other two events staged over a mile at Sha Tin.  Settling ideally, he was always in control in the box-seat and then cruised home down the centre of the track for Derek Leung.

Reigning champion trainer Frankie Lor has big plans for the All Too Hard import who has already banked the equivalent of AUD 915,000 in just seven starts since his Hong Kong debut in May.  “That was a nice win and he’s my best chance for the Four-Year-Old Series,” Lor said.  “I’m still not sure about getting out to 2000m but hopefully he can handle it.”

The Four-Year-Old Series comprises the HK Classic Mile (1600m) on January 29, HK Classic Cup (1800m) on February 26 and HK Derby (2000m) on March 19.

Keefy was a $105,000 graduate from Vinery (as agent) at the 2020 Inglis Classic Sale and his next assignment will likely be the Chinese Club Challenge Cup (Gr.3, 1400m) on New Year’s Day.  “Everything was suitable for him today,” Leung reported.  “He had a nice tempo and was in a good position.  I didn’t have to use him in the early part and he gave a very good kick.”

He’s the second winner from the Chris Waller-trained Canterbury winner Urban Rocker (Fastnet Rock) and that cross has produced the Stakes winners Amangiri (Hawkesbury Cup Gr.3) and Hard Rock Girl (Cinderella Stakes LR)

All Too Hard is the go-to sire for Hong Kong buyers having sired 14 winners of 48 races headed by Champion Sprinter Wellington who pulled up lame after a last-start sixth in the Jockey Club Sprint (Gr.2, 1200m) on November 20.

Trainer Richard Gibson reports his three-time Group 1 winner is progressing well and is on track for the Hong Kong Sprint (Gr.1, 1200m) on December 11.  “It’s still early doors but the signs are looking good,” Gibson said on the weekend.  “He’s going well and we intend to stretch his legs in a gallop this week.”

Champion English jockey Ryan Moore will partner Wellington on International Day.  He replaces regular rider Alexis Badel who is sidelined after injuring his shoulder and ankle in a fall at Sha Tin last week.

There are 18 All Too Hard yearlings catalogued for the Gold Coast Magic Millions and the sole entry from Vinery (as agent) is the colt from Snitzel’s multiple Stakes performer Spoils (Lot 416). “His dam was a very talented 2yo and the colt is more forward than your typical All Too Hard,” Vinery bloodstock manager Adam White said.  “He’s the right fit for the January Sale and All Too Hard has a magnificent record at the Magic Millions with Group 1 graduates like Alligator Blood, Forbidden Love and Wellington.”
