Breeders have the opportunity to buy a multiple Group 2-winning mare when Jamaea is offered at the Inglis July (Late) Online Sale later this week.
The striking daughter of Vinery sire Headwater will be one of the headline lots when bidding commences this Friday, July 21. She will be sold as a breeding proposition after a career that spanned 20 starts for earnings over $1million.
Jamaea (4m Headwater – Isibaeva by Johannesburg) was bred and sold for $130,000 by Cressfield Thoroughbreds at the 2020 Gold Coast Magic Millions. After winning a Kembla Grange 2yo maiden on debut, she never raced out of black-type company for her owners Bruce & Ken Noble and trainers Robert & Luke Price.
She was a dual Group 2 winner over 1200m at Randwick in 2021 letting loose with awesome sprints in the Percy Sykes Stakes as an autumn 2yo and Furious Stakes as a spring 3yo. “We knew from Day 1 that she was special, she was just different to the others,” Robert Price said. “She’s the fastest filly we’ve ever trained and as she proved herself time and again, she was one of the fastest fillies in what was one of the strongest 2yo crops of recent times.
“She was a lovely filly to look at and she’s grown into a lovely mare and I have no doubt she will make a beautiful broodmare because she’s got a great attitude and all the attributes of a quality producer.”
Jamaea was retired after a fifth placing in the Group 3 Triscay Stakes in February and managing owner Bruce Noble said she was better placed with someone who specialised in breeding. “She was such a gutsy race filly and if she produces foals half as talented as her, she really could develop into a special broodmare,” he said.
“I would love to breed from her myself, but it’s just not what my brother and I do – we are racers. I’ve chatted to plenty of prominent industry people about her and I’m assured that she is compatible with most of the best stallions in Australia from a pedigree and physical standpoint, so I’m really excited to see what she can go on to achieve as a broodmare.
“She’s up in the Hunter Valley now and I would expect that most studmasters will fall in love with her when they see her in the same way that we did.”
Jamaea is available for inspection at Cannon Hayes Stud in the Hunter Valley from Tuesday, July 18.
Headwater mare Mileva isn’t far from the breeding barn, either, after commencing her latest spring campaign with a closing second to Sigh (No Nay Never) in the Sir John Monash Stakes (Gr.3, 1100m) at Caulfield last Saturday. Mileva now races for Kia Ora Stud after being sold for $700,000 at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale in May.
Headwater completed a hat-trick of 3yo winners last Sunday. Taupo Tiger was the first cab off the rank for Headwater and trainers John Symonds & Sheila Laxon at the Sunshine Coast. David Vandyke delivered a second on the Sunshine Coast with On Hold and Edward Cummings added a third with Strait Acer at Hawkesbury.
