Jamaea is jumping out of her skin in readiness for the Golden Rose following an impressive exhibition gallop at Kembla Grange on Thursday.
The Headwater filly edged out stablemate Our Bambino between races at their home track without being pushed by Brock Ryan. Last seen winning the Furious Stakes (Gr.2, 1200m) at Randwick, she’s right on track for the $1million Golden Rose Stakes (Gr.1, 1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday week, September 25.
“We were very happy with that work,” co-trainer Luke Price said. “Bring on the boys in the Rose! Anamoe is obviously the horse to beat. He’s an exceptional animal but so is our filly.”
Godolphin colt Anamoe is the $1.95 market-leader for the Golden Rose while Jamaea is best-priced among the fillies after firming from $101 into $20.
Vinery champion Headwater (14) kept a one-win margin over Pride Of Dubai (13) on the Australian third-crop winners premiership when Head Legislator made a well-deserved breakthrough in the George Podmore Hcp (1300m) at Kembla Grange yesterday.
Head Legislator had put the writing on the wall when beaten a nose by All Machiavellian at Newcastle on August 21. “That was a great effort and it was a gun ride by Nash (Rawiller),” trainer Matt Dunn said. “We knew he would be hard to toss on the back of that narrow loss last time.”
Vinery sold him to Dunn for $100,000 at the 2019 Gold Coast Magic Millions and kept a share with Brilliance Racing. His Group 3-performed dam Legislature (More Than Ready) is a sister to Carry On Cutie (ATC Champagne Stakes Gr.1).
n Hong Kong, Hall Of Fame trainer David Hayes has made a brilliant start to the season and his Headwater gelding Master Aqua will debut in the Hwamei Hcp (1000m) at Sha Tin this Sunday. Zac Purton has been booked for the gelding who was beaten a short-head in a 1050m barrier trial last Friday.
Master Aqua was bred by Vinery in partnership with Bob Hannon and was knocked down for $240,000 at the 2019 Inglis Ready2Race Sale. Headwater sired him from Sunset Coast (Dubleo) who is a Sydney-winning half-sister to Group 1 racehorse and sire Shamus Award.
“He had progressed so well since we pin-hooked him at the Classic Sale,” vendor Brock Ryan said at Riverside Stables. “He’s got a massive stride and is a really good type.”
