Unbeaten Headwater 2yo Aitch Two Oh has earned a start in black-type company after giving her rivals a bath in the Thomas Farms Hcp (1000m) at Morphettville.
Saturday’s victory followed a four-length winning debut at Morphettville on Boxing Day. She reprised that result with another runaway over promising first-starter Super Sharp (More Than Ready) who finished a clear second, albeit five lengths in arrears.
Aitch Two Oh has led from go-to-whoa in both outings and looks a serious galloper for trainers Richard and Chantelle Jolly.
She will return to Morphettville for the Dequetteville Stakes (LR, 1050m) on April 9. “It’s great to see this filly back at the races dominating yet again,” Richard Jolly declared. “It never looked in doubt. She just kept going and there’s plenty more to come.”
The Jollys have a perfect strike-rate with Vinery sire Headwater having also prepared his 3yo winners Keep Reading and Karacasu.
Aitch Two Oh sold for $65,000 from Baramul Stud’s draft to the 2021 Adelaide Magic Millions. Her dam Very Dogmatic (Swiss Ace) is a full-sister to Mywayorthehighway (GCTC Vo Rogue Plate (Gr.3, 1200m) and she has a yearling colt by Press Statement and a filly foal by All Too Hard.
Richard Jolly manages the syndicate which includes Dean Hurrell, Baramul Stud’s Gerry Harvey and Magic Millions Perth manager David Houston.
All Too Hard gelding Impossible Action completed a double for the stable and Vinery in the Adelaide Carnival Hcp (1400m). “It was lovely to see this guy doing his best work late when he swamped the leaders,” Jolly reported. “Hopefully, he has found that winning groove and we can see some more consistency from now on.”
Impossible Action carries the More Than Ready cross and was knocked down for $80,000 from the Vinery draft at the 2019 Classic Yearling Sale. He was sold as agent for breeder Pat Hodgens who was also represented by Headwater winner Shorebreak at Hawkesbury on Thursday.
On Sunday, Headwater sired his 11th individual winner in March when Hydro Star powered home in the Miners Rest Hcp (1000m) at Ballarat. Trained by John McArdle for Lauriston Thoroughbreds, he had been winless since an eye-catching debut victory at Sandown in July 2020.
“A lot of work has gone into getting this horse to put it all together,” Lauriston’s James O’Brien said. “It’s so good to see what happens when he does.”
Lauriston Thoroughbreds has a Group 1 connection with Vinery through All Too Hard’s Hong Kong star Wellington. The Corinella-based farm bought Wellington as a yearling from Kia Ora Stud and educated him through to jump-outs before selling him to Hong Kong through agent Jeff Gordon.
