Boom first season sire Ole Kirk has firmly established himself as the hottest young stallion in the country reeling off four two-year-old winners in two days, highlighted by Ole Dancer’s stunning debut victory in the Magic Millions SA 2YO Classic at Murray Bridge on Saturday.
Having only her first start, the Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman trained filly settled towards the rear of the field before powering home to win comfortably by 1.7 lengths under the guidance of jockey Will Price.
Ole Dancer is the third foal out of the Husson mare Dancers and comes from the family of Group One winners Private Eye, Snitzel and Redeiner. She was bred by Neil Werrett who remains in her ownership and was a $350,000 purchase for her trainers from the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Remarkably, Ole Kirk has now sired the winners of three of the seven Magic Millions 2YO Classic races this season, with only the Magic Millions National 2YO Classic left to run later in May.
Shortly after Ole Dancer’s victory, the Steve Wolfe trained Fiery Spark scored on debut at the Metro Bunbury meeting in Western Australia. Ridden by Shaun McGruddy, the gelding came from near last to overhaul the leaders and win by a head on the line.
Fiery Spark was a $100,000 yearling purchase for Commercial Bloodstock Services from the Dawson Stud draft of the 2024 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale and is the fourth foal out of Domesday mare More Spark, who is a half-sister to the Stakes winner Sparks Fly.
Saturday’s success followed on from a winning-double on Friday with Prestige Ole saluting at Ballarat for David Brideoake and Matt Jenkins, and the Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald trained Next Jen winning on debut at Newcastle.
Prestige Ole was a $70,000 purchase for his owner Eric Yeung who also owns the stakes-placed Prestige Forever (Ole Kirk). The colt is the second foal out of the Exceed and Excel mare Major Wager who was a winner at two and black type-placed at three.
Next Jen is out of the Snitzel mare Fashion Sniptz and was a $30,000 purchase for her stable from the Valiant Stud draft at last year’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
Ole Kirk has now sired six individual juvenile winners including Stakes winners O’Ole and the ill-fated King Kirk. He currently leads the first season sires table by earnings and winners and is also the leading 2YO Sire in the country.
These results highlight an exciting future for a stallion whose best performances may still lie ahead. Ole Kirk, a listed winner at two over 1100 meters, went on to become the standout three-year-old colt of his generation. He won the prestigious Group 1 Golden Rose over 1400 meters and the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas over 1600 meters. This is particularly promising for his offspring, who are expected to follow a similar trajectory and improve as they age and race over longer distances.
