Capital Delight completed a weekend double for Vinery Stud graduates from the Gold Coast Magic Millions when he motored home from midfield in the Kwai Shing Hcp (1200m) at Sha Tin on Sunday.
He followed fellow Vinery graduate Vanquished who hit the jackpot for his connections in the $250,000 Magic Millions Maiden Plate (1400m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Capital Delight (4g Capitalist – Eiffel Tower by Stratum) is the first foal of a mare who descends from blue-hen Shantha’s Choice. He was bred by Brian Backshall (John Stuart Investments) and was offered by Vinery (as agent) at the 2021 Gold Coast Magic Millions where he was purchased by agent John Foote for $600,000.
“He’s a beautiful mover and overall a very nice colt,” Foote said back in January 2021. “He will eventually go to Hong Kong. I gave one of my clients up there a short-list on type. He loved this colt’s pedigree and I guess he had to pay for the privilege.”
Capital Delight is trained by Caspar Fownes for long-time client Peter Law Kin Sang and had opened his Hong Kong account splitting a dead-heat decision with Lucky Archangel (Deep Field) at Happy Valley in October. Sunday’s result sent his earnings to the equivalent of AUD 685,000.
“It doesn’t matter, Happy Valley 1200m, Sha Tin dirt or Sha Tin grass 1200m. He’s a nice horse who is slowly starting to improve,” Fownes said. “Hopefully it can continue. He’s still got a way to go but he’s a good-looking horse, physically a very nice type, and it’s nice that they can handle different surfaces. It gives you some more options with them.”
He was initially trained by Tony Gollan and had opened his Australian career with a running double at Doomben when racing as Capital Tower before transferring to Fownes. Vinery will offer his yearling half-brother by Russian Revolution at the Gold Coast Magic Millions on Thursday as Lot 613.
Vinery has a second-to-none record with its graduates from the Gold Coast Magic Millions. Over the last decade, they have built a 74% winning strike-rate and their Stakes-performers to runners is a superb 16%.
There have been 137 winning graduates from Vinery’s Magic Millions drafts since 2012 and, of that number, 102 have been multiple winners.
