Bandersnatch has notched his second black-type victory with time-saving tactics in the Civic Stakes (LR, 1400m) at Rosehill.
The Casino Prince 4yo was held together in front and there was plenty left in the tank when Brenton Avdulla pushed the button in the straight. He accelerated and put the race to bed before Tricky Gal (Magic Albert) narrowed the winning margin to a length.
Bandersnatch went out a $4.20 favourite at his third run back for Team Hawkes on Saturday. He had won the Carrington Stakes (LR, 1400m) at Randwick in January prior to an autumn spell.
“He jumped well and Brenton gave him a good breather,” co-trainer Michael Hawkes said. “It had been a month between runs but we spaced it that way. We’re just trying to find the right race for this bloke and if he pulls up well there’s the Winter Stakes (LR, 1400m) at Randwick in a fortnight.”
Bandersnatch was sold by Amarina Farm for $42,000 at the 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and has now earned $484,430 including BOBS extras totalling $45,000. His dam Divine Faith (Falbrav) is related to former Arrowfield Stud shuttler Unbridled’s Song.
Vinery stallion Casino Prince has sired 20 Stakes winners among overall career stats of 385 individual winners at a 71% strike-rate. His multiple Stakes winning mare Sweet Deal added a Group 1 placing to her record in the Tatt’s Tiara at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
The Civic Stakes was the highlight of a treble for Vinery at Rosehill on Saturday. More Than Ready filly Patino Ruby opened the card with a win that had connections looking towards a start in the $1.3million Kosciuszko (1200m) in October.
Mirra Vision completed the three-timer in the ACY Securities Hcp (1400m). The Lonhro mare was part of the Vinery draft (as agent for Bennelong Bloodstock’s Peter and Catherine Campbell) at the 2018 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.
