Exceedance sired another two progressive winners at the Pakenham jump-outs on Tuesday to follow a quick-fire city double with Swiftfalcon (Rosehill) and Brave One (Randwick)
Brave One was the 7th first-crop winner by the Vinery freshman when he landed the ATC Petaluma Hcp (1100m) last Saturday. That helped Exceedance surge up the Leading First Season Sires table much to the delight co-trainer Michael Hawkes. “We can’t get enough of the Exceedances,” he said. “We’ve loved them since they arrived in the stable and Brave One just oozes class.”
Leading syndicator Wylie Dalziel was also flying the flag for Exceedance after his fleet-footed filly Asmita clocked easily the best time (43.8s) of the four jump-outs over 750m at Pakenham.
Asmita led and was never in danger with Linda Meech content to coax her home without getting serious. She had a length in reserve over grey colt Statuario (D’argento) and they streeted the others by more than seven lengths.
The Peter Moody-trained filly was an $80,000 buy from Morningside Park at the 2023 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale. Her older half-sister Tiz Enuf (Rich Enuff) was a front-running, late-season Moonee Valley 2yo winner for Anthony and Sam Freedman in July 2023.
“We have three in work by Exceedance and we’re very happy with all three,” Dalziel declared on Thursday. “Asmita scooted along and has pulled up perfectly. She will probably have another gallop on Saturday morning and then be nominated for a couple of races in the next week or two.
“She’s a speedy filly and was ready to go last prep but ‘Moods’ decided to give her a bit more time to strengthen and mature.”
Dalziel reports Sugar Coat is another Exceedance ready to jump-out for Moody and co-trainer Katherine Coleman. “We bought him for $100,000 at the Gold Coast and his breeder Neil Werrett kept a share. So did the bloke who broke him in!”
Sugar Coat’s dam Sugar Rush (More Than Ready) was a Randwick winner for Gai Waterhouse while second-dam Sugar Babe (Exceed and Excel) was a Group 3 Caulfield winner for John Singleton.
The third Exceedance stablemate is Wild Dancer and he’s a few weeks behind the others but coming along nicely for a syndicate that includes Rosemont Stud’s Anthony Mithen who bred him from imported mare Wild Mia (USA).
Another Dumpling was the other Exceedance to win a jump-out at Pakenham and the further they went, the further he went ahead, eventually coasting home by six lengths for Tatum Bull.
Mornington trainer Clayton Douglas races Another Dumpling in partnership with Vicki Samba after changing hands for a bargain $15,000 price-tag from Kitchwin Hills at the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
Another Dumpling has been nominated to debut in the Super VOBIS 2YO Maiden Plate (1000m) back at Pakenham on Monday. Like Sugar Coat, he comes from a John Singleton-nurtured family and his close relations include She Will Reign (Golden Slipper Stakes Gr.1) and Time To Reign (Silver Slipper Stakes Gr.2).
